I joined the University Concert choir back in August at Highlands University. I always wanted to do this at UNM but driving to town and back just wasn't going to work out. Especially since they had rehearsals twice a week.
I was very excited to work with a music professor and learn some new music with a decent sized choir. I found it extremely funny that we were doing Messiah this semester. The choir mostly consisted of older men and women, professors and people from the community and a few college students.
The one wearing the glasses is our choir director/music professor Andre. He made us work hard and I loved every minute. I have sung Messiah with the East Mountain Community Choir but it was a 6 week rehearsal once a week and it was rather forgiving. Here he DID NOT let us sluff through the runs with many of the pieces. We worked our diction and we worked out many voice techniques.

In Nov, a guest conductor came from DU to work with us as well as the Santa Fe Symphony. Here I am at rehearsals at the Ifeld Auditorium which is a gorgeous art deco theater. Mary Jo and Bonnie, fellow altos flanked me. It was gratifying to hear from them that they liked sitting next to me because I knew my music. 7 Years doing Messiah will do that....plus the love.

You can sort of see the theater and the women there was our guest conductor. We performed middle of Nov and it was, as usual, awesome.

Next semester they are doing more showtunes, jazz stuff. Apparently every fall they usually so requiems and oratorios but in the Spring they do other stuff. I might do it or I might take a class in something. Not sure yet.

Very cool Jenn, I have loved being in my city choir - the music is so much fun, my voice has improved and I feel so good about doing something I love that's just for me. We just did our two concerts this weekend - it was great
