Calumet says Howdy

For those of you who LOVE old 80's Cold War-esque movies featuring actors from and associated with the Brat Pack (including Charlie "Winning" Sheen,) here's a relic from the film Red Dawn.

We checked it out from the Highlands library since they have a collection of DVD's of movies filmed in the Las Vegas area. Watching the film, we recognized quite a few places, including this mural below. The film is set in fictional Calumet..where the Great Plains meet the Mighty Rockies. And the town decided to leave the mural.

The film is alright...actually it's comically bad but for the 80's and featuring C Thomas Howell, the aforesaid "Winning", Patrick Swayze, Lea Thompson and Jennifer Grey. The Soviets invaded the southern part of the US with help from the Cubans. All these teenagers run to the mountains and take it upon themselves to strike back through guerrilla type tactics and they known as the Wolverines...cause you see that was the name of their high school football team.

A film that combines both the enemy of the day PLUS Patrick Swayze. It's WINNING!!! Ah the 80's! How I miss you.

And now I get to live in Calumet!

And here is a picture facing the other direction of the railroad tracks and a train coming through. Tom likes to watch the trains go by.
